Sometimes a new Spanish learning program comes around and gets everyone’s attention. Bueno Entonces is causing quite a storm with the Spanish learning community.
It features David from English and ‘his smoking hot’ Spanish tutor, Jimena in a series of animated videos. Bueno Entonces is one of a kind in terms of beginners courses, which includes 30 video lessons, all between 30-40 minutes long.
Before I get too deep into this Beuno Entonces review, let’s have a look at the first Bueno Entonces lesson.
Go to the Bueno Entonces Website
What is obvious from the first few minutes is that the videos are engaging using wit, great story lines, and some really effective learning methods to keep you interested in the course.
Bueno Entonces is especially for beginners who have studied a little Spanish in the past (it covers the first two levels of the European Framework and the American Council for Spanish).
True beginners may feel a little overwhelmed watching the first video, but as you continue with the course and repeat the different lessons, you should start to feel more comfortable.
The Spanish used is Argentinian Spanish. Although there are some notable differences between Argentinian Spanish the Spanish used in Spain and other Latin American countries, this shouldn’t be too much of a turn off for those who want to learn a different type of Spanish.
Many comments so far have been about the speed of the course. This was purposefully implemented, and as they state on there website:
“Try talking to a cab driver in Madrid. Bueno, entonces… is fast, really fast. But just like Tetris or Guitar Hero (or maybe Grand Theft Auto), you get used to it after a few minutes and you’ll start learning things without even realizing it – just to keep up with the story.
Fast also means you’ll miss things, which is ok. You’ll probably need to watch each class 2-3 times to really get everything. And each time you watch it, you’ll get something new.”
From the video above you probably have noticed that it is quite fast. Things flash in front of your eyes very quickly and then are gone. If you are a beginner and feel overwhelmed from the video above, watch it again and see what you have picked up.
The whole idea is to try and get you comfortable with the speed of Spanish from the start. Jimena doesn’t speak at the speed of natural Spanish, but things are done much more quickly than most Spanish beginner courses. And I think this is a really positive thing.
The study guide that comes along with the course is extremely detailed and has all the phrases, vocabulary and grammar explained with plenty of examples and quizzes.
You also get a slang dictionary and the support seems very good, which you can tell from the amount of questions the team answer on their website, other websites and their twitter account.
The videos are very funny and engaging. I was a little dubious about how the whole course was presented at first (that is was trying to be too hip), but it works. David is very cheeky and funny, which makes the course very interesting and engaging.
The examples used to explain the Spanish being taught are very good; for example, they talk about different greetings and how you can use them differently by talking about a random guy who approaches Jimena in different ways. You then learn what her boyfriend would say in these situations. These are the types of examples that stick in your head, making the Spanish more memorable.
Although it made for beginners who already have a little knowledge of Spanish, it is also excellent for pre-intermediate and intermediate speakers, especially those who feel that they have a deficit when it comes to spoken Spanish.
True beginners who have never studied before might want to go for something a little more structured first and then get this course (see Spanish audio lessons). If you want to learn Spanish for Spain or other Latin American countries be aware that the focus is on Argentinian Spanish.
The lessons are there to be repeated and it’s important to relax while watching them. The key to getting the most out of Bueno Entonces is to enjoy the videos (they are very enjoyable), go through the study guides, watch the video again and then practice what you have learned. Don’t force yourself to try and remember everything that is said, this is not the intention of the course.
It introduces basic to intermediate Spanish in a way that makes things more fun and therefore memorable – something that it does very well.
While listening to the videos there isn’t much time to repeat the words and phrases. This is my main concern about the course. While watching it is a good idea to pause the video and repeat after Jimena. This involves some work on your part but it will be worth it as you need to reproduce the sounds that you hear.
The 30 lessons come with a Spanish slang dictionary, the aforementioned study guides and lifetime support. This course is highly recommended and because it is so enjoyable, after finishing one lesson you’ll want to go straight into the next. But don’t rush them, watch them a couple of times, do the exercises and you’ll see your Spanish improving very quickly.

I liked the first course and have purchased the second course as well for the iPhone. It’s true, because of the speed of the video, you have to go through it several times, but that is ok because it reinforces things over and over. I have many friends from Mexico, and they have pointed some differences in pronunciation such as the ll and “y”. I wonder if in the future, those differences could be explained by the professor. Just food for thought. I also learn and retain a lot by typing, since nearly all of my workday consists if email, i wish the course had more interactive type exercises . Just a thought.
I started using Bueno Entonces a few weeks ago. I completely agree with what you say about the pace of it – it takes a little getting used to, but I liked learning this way as it gets you used to how quick things are said. I’d recommend it to other learners too.
